  • United Illuminating and Connecticut Light & Power filed a joint application with the DPUC in Docket No. 10-07-07 seeking approval for UI’s investment in and ownership of transmission assets associated with the Connecticut portion of CL&P’s New England East West Solution (NEEWS) projects to improve regional energy reliability.

  • DPUC established on its own motion, Docket No. 10-05-07DPUC Review of The Connecticut Clean Energy Options Program, to review alternative transitional standard offer options within the program.
  • DPUC formally opened Docket No. 05-06-04RE06 and Docket No. 03-07-02RE10 to review Variable Peak Pricing (VPP) and mandatory Time-of-Day (TOD) and seasonal rates at both United Illuminating and CL&P. The DPUC said some time has elapsed since it approved Variable Peak Pricing (VPP) rates and since seasonal rates were extended to additional bill components.  The Department believes it is appropriate to examine the utilities’ VPP tariffs, to determine whether to expand TOD rates to lower use customers and to generally examine seasonal rate structures.


  • Quinnipiac Poll shows Tom Foley continues to lead Republican Primary race. Both Democrats, Ned Lamont and Dan Malloy, have double digit leads over all of the Republicans. Among likely Democratic primary voters, Lamont leads Malloy 46 – 37 percent, with 16 percent undecided.
  • Options being considered for the future of the Smart Living Center in Orange, CT.
  • Advantage Energy, LLC received Connecticut electric aggregator certificate to serve residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, and governmental customers.
  • In a Draft Decision, the DPUC would grant group Purchasing Organization, Ltd. an electric aggregator certificate to serve residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, and governmental customers.
  • Community Power & Utility, LLC granted Electric Supplier License to serve residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout Connecticut.
  • In a Draft Decision, the DPUC awarded Trinity College a capital grant for a customer-side distributed generation resource at its facilities at 300 Summit Street in Hartford.
  • DPUC issued a Notice of Hearing to open an investigation to ensure the public safety in the underground electrical distribution system maintained and overseen by CL&P in Waterbury.  The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 9:30 AM.
  • Energy Information Administration says electricity prices in most cases under the Kerry-Lieberman proposal would range from 9.4 to 9.8 cents/kWh in 2020, 4% to 9% above current projections.
  • CT Office of Legislative Research released a report summary of the DPUC’s recent decision on CL&P’s rates increases.
  • CT Energy Efficiency Fund sponsoring $30K green building competition.
  • Yankee Gas giving away $50 gift cards on September 15, 2010.
