UI said the Focus Meter is a solid state, 0.5% accuracy class meter utilizing digital signal multiplication measurement technology and is available in all standard meter forms.

UI said the Focus Meter met or exceeded American National Standards Institute (ANSI) requirements, and was tested extensively by UI’s Meter Engineering department, using a complete battery of tests including but not limited to:

  • accuracy and run-time,
  • environmental testing,
  • design criteria,
  • parallel testing (shop and field),
  • programming and security,
  • remote RF communication & operation,
  • meter reading (manual and remote RF communication methods),
  • events/alarms/power quality measurements, and
  • billing and customer information system compatibility

UI said the Focus Meter passed all tests, and is a “true” Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meter that comes standard with an integrated service disconnect device, ZigBee chip for home area networking, net metering functionality in addition to multiple other programming features including:

  • time of day and interval data collection,
  • advanced meter events/alarms/diagnostics and,
  • with the L+G Gridstream RF radio module, enables full two-way mesh communications including over the air firmware and program update capabilities.

UI said it is confident that the Focus Meter will meet or exceed all requirements of its customers and the Department well into the future, and will be included in all of UI’s future Selective and Periodic test programs beginning in 2011.
